Encendí la televisión y, como es costumbre, puse algún canal nacional para ver la temperatura, cuando de pronto, ¡oh, sorpresa!, los titulares anunciaron durante gran parte de la mañana que Mario Vargas Llosa ha sido, hoy, galardonado con el Premio Nobel de Literatura. Por supuesto la prensa argentina no podía dejar de darle vueltas al gracioso hecho de que su primera impresión fue que le estaban haciendo una broma. Y eso porque se barajó su nombre entre los candidatos durante los últimos veinte años y ya no creía que le fuese otorgado. Tan relativo podía ser que él mismo mencionó que han habido grandes personajes de la literatura que fueron pasados por alto, como Tolstoi, Borges o Kafka. Pero hoy ha sido Vargas Llosa quien lo ha ganado. Y Latinoamérica celebra estar nuevamente en las listas.
